Still haven’t crossed over into the dark side of virtual reality? Well, if you’re a PS4 user as well as a card-carrying PS Plus member, then you may now have a chance to strap on a headset at (essentially) no charge.

Earlier today, some rumblings began on Twitter about certain people receiving emails from Sony regarding PSVR, specifically in relation to a 14-day free in-home trial. According to numerous screenshots of the stock message, chosen gamers are to be sent a bundle including The Elder Scrolls V: Skrim VR, the VR Demo Disc 2.0 (not completely sure what’s included on this), a pair of Move motion controllers, the required camera and of course the headset itself. That's a lot of cool tech to check out for a full two weeks. Not a bad proposition, but there is a catch, and a pretty big one at that.

For all those choosing to opt-in, Sony is placing a $299.99 hold on their credit cards until the bundle is returned, undamaged and complete. I totally get why a hold is necessary, because this is expensive equipment and Sony can’t have people disappearing with their headsets or returning them with peanut butter-covered viewing lenses. But here’s the thing: The language used in regard to this particular detail makes this whole ordeal seem less like a free trial and more like a scheme to take advantage of people who either a) forget to send the package back or b) are too lazy to do so.
